PLA Plastic & Eco-Friendliness
What is PLA?
PLA stands for polylactic acid, a bio-based, biodegradable plastic made primarily from renewable resources like corn starch or sugarcane.
We produce all our prints using electricity from renewable sources, thanks to our own solar panels – making your purchase even more planet-friendly.
PLA is also non-toxic and generally considered food-safe, making it a safe and trusted material for everyday use, even around children. While it’s still a plastic, PLA is one of the most eco-conscious options available in 3D printing.
We purchase some of our filaments with the Germany based Recycling Fabrik, which specialises in the recycling of 3D print waste. https://www.recyclingfabrik.comWhy is PLA more eco-friendly?
🌽 Plant-based: Unlike traditional plastics made from petroleum, PLA is derived from natural materials.
♻️ Biodegradable: Under industrial conditions, PLA can be composted.
🌍 Lower carbon footprint: Its production emits fewer greenhouse gases than conventional plastics.
🧵 No microplastics: PLA breaks down differently and is less likely to pollute oceans.
Note: While PLA is compostable, it requires industrial composting facilities – it should not be disposed of in household organic waste bins.
